Thought for the Day – Mental gooseflesh
Faith in finite self is at 100% 24-7 unless I “enter AA” now and turn to a Power other than self.
12-steps is a process of negation. Investigating a belief system and how the character views the world.
Steps 4-8 are designed for this investigation so that self can assist in it’s own deconstruction.
How do we do this?
A zen master might tell you to meditate on what is true. A Hindu master might tell you to make the inquiry “what am I?”. A sponsor in 12-step would gently suggest you take the 12 steps. All of those are excellent suggestions. The only thing that ego ‘self’ wants you to go is keep feeding it it’s own crappy diet of lies. This will lead to more suffering for you and those you love.
If you want to hurt those you love, do nothing.
There is an interesting writer named Jed McKenna you may be interested in reading. Here is what he suggests:
Grab a pencil and paper, pray to whatever you believe in to show you the truth and start writing.
It looks something like this:
Write any belief you have on paper. For instance;
“I believe in God.
What is true?”
You can substitute any belief you would like to investigate.
Then just keep writing until something comes out of the pencil that goes “BOOM”. Something that is absolutely and inarguably true.
In that process other lies will come up, write those down and do this simple exercise on those as well.
It’s like going into the garage with all those boxes in there. It’s all crap. Open every box, examine every belief and find out what’s true. When you get to the last box, tadah! You are done!
Contemplation for the Day
Read 53-54 in the BB and contemplate how much faith you put in your belief system.
Is self the Lord of my life?
