Thought for the Day

It was pointed out to me many years ago that “long term abstinence is an experience of swapping addictions”. Shopping, working out, gambling, sex and love addiction. ‘We could add to the list ad infinitum.’ (AA big book pg. ‘More About Alcoholism’, p.31 ). It’s really hard to see this. It is however possible to ‘rip off the band-aid’ and take the time in early sobriety or NOW to get with God and other AAs to really look at what the issue is. A sick need to please the unpleasable. As Bob A used to say, “You know what my higher-power is?… Whatever I am thinking about right now.”
